The work of the House Appropriations Committee affects the lives of every American. The committee appropriates all the expenditures made by the United States government.
On June 25, 2018, I was named Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch. The subcommittee is responsible for managing the daily work of the Legislative Branch and providing for the safety of Capitol Hill.
The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development administers funding for the Departments of the Interior, Energy, and civil responsibilities within the Department of Defense. The subcommittee handles issues related to our nation's nuclear security, including the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The subcommittee also has jurisdiction over several related agencies and regional commissions.
The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs provides funding for the construction and improvement of facilities used by active and reserve military worldwide, including military family housing and homeowner's assistance. The subcommittee also handles issues with the Department of Veterans Affairs, including veterans' medical services.
The House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations administers funding for diplomatic operations, international security assistance, and humanitarian assistance. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Department of State, the Agency for International Development, and related international programs.
