Nebraska Radio Network: Congressman Fortenberry calls House Farm Bill good for the country, Nebraska
A sweeping farm bill that passed the House is very good news for Nebraska and America, according to Congressman Jeff Fortenberry.
“It basically provides the backbone and structure for our food security system,” Fortenberry tells Coby Mach, host of Drive Time Lincoln on Nebraska Radio Network affiliate KLIN.
Fortenberry says that the measure is full of beneficial provisions for farmers such as his proposal to help farmers with health care coverage. The bill also includes crop insurance and improvements to conservation programs.
President Trump tweeted his approval of the bill, particularly the work requirements for people who seek help through the Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP), the food stamp program. President Trump calls the bill a “big win” for farmers.
The proposed Farm Bill next goes to the Senate for action. The Senate is set to vote on its own version next week. The current Farm Bill expires September 30th.
