Fortenberry: Health Care Negotiations Must be Opened
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jeff Fortenberry today joined a bipartisan effort to force leaders in the House and Senate to make public the ongoing health care reform negotiations.
“This sweeping overhaul of America’s health care system, which will affect how every American gets the care he or she needs, must not be finalized in dark backrooms in Washington, D.C.,” said Fortenberry. “House and Senate leadership is now meeting behind closed doors, without the benefit of scrutiny from the American people and their representatives. Congressional leaders and the Administration should take to heart the motto inscribed on Nebraska’s State Capitol, ‘The Salvation of the State is Watchfulness in the Citizen.’”
The Fortenberry-supported measure was filed on Wednesday to bring a vote before the House to publicly broadcast the House and Senate health care negotiations on C-SPAN.
