Fortenberry Statement on State of the Union
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Jeff Fortenberry today provided the following statement on the President’s State of the Union address:
“The President spoke directly and clearly. He was reflective, almost somber in his tone. I thought the speech was probing, purposeful, and personal. While our country continues to face challenges, including deepening philosophical divides, the President made a clear case for historic accomplishments during this first year.
“He highlighted economic regeneration, offering one of his strongest lines when he said, ‘The era of economic surrender is over.’ He also outlined new measures to support our veterans, a four-pillar approach to immigration reform, and the important accomplishment of crushing ISIS. I was particularly encouraged by the President’s calls for bipartisan solutions, especially regarding strengthening our nation’s infrastructure.
“At the same time, much more work remains ahead. In the coming year, I hope to work with the President and my colleagues in the House and Senate to build an even more resilient economy that works for all, along with health care repair that lowers costs and improves outcomes while protecting the most vulnerable.”
Congressman Fortenberry is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
