Fortenberry Statement on Stopping Bad Robocalls Act
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-1) offered the following statement today after agreeing to cosponsor the bipartisan H.R. 3375, the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act.
“Unlawful robocalls have metastasized from annoyance, to nuisance, to scourge amounting to an estimated 47.8 billion calls nationwide in 2018. The Stopping Bad Robocalls Act requires telephone companies to offer call-block services to persons at no charge and use technology to authenticate caller I.D. in order to stop the rampant, disturbing practice of phone number spoofing by scammers,” Fortenberry said. “The bill also enacts safeguards to prevent companies from abusing robocall exemptions. It is time we end robocall harassment once and for all,” Fortenberry added.
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry is the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
