Fort Report: Town Halls and Self-Government

Jul 31, 2015

We are a people who self-govern. Each of us has the important responsibility to be informed about our nation’s political life, to think about policies that best create order and opportunity, and to engage constructively in building more vibrant communities. As Nebraskans, we understand the importance of civic life and civic duty.

As your Representative in Congress, I am entrusted with the special privilege of making decisions about how to best govern America. As the world grows increasingly complex—and yet increasingly yearns for more clarity and simplicity—it is important to spend time together to unpack the critical challenges before us.

Next week, I am hosting a series of public town hall meetings. I will provide an overview of the budgetary situation in Washington, the dynamics of the Iran nuclear agreement debate, the ongoing conversation over global trade policy, and perhaps a few other topics, making sure to leave time for your questions. This year’s meetings will be held in Bellevue, Lincoln, Fremont, Norfolk, Nebraska City, and Seward. I am also participating in a community event with the village redevelopment committee in Pilger.

In addition to the town hall meetings, I am hosting a special presentation about the new Utah Beach WWII Memorial dedicated on the 71st anniversary of the D-Day landings. I had the extraordinary honor of attending the dedication in France along with members of the Columbus community. We will be sharing highlights and memories of the completed project during a special presentation next week.
