Fortenberry Announces Upcoming Vote on Great American Outdoors Act
(LINCOLN, NE) -- Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) offered the following statement regarding the upcoming vote on the Great American Outdoors Act.
“Our National Parks are majestic places, a great source of national pride, and a living heritage for all Americans. I am pleased to help lead the effort on the Great American Outdoors Act to enhance the National Park System and protect public lands. It’s about the preservation and regeneration of precious ecosystems throughout the country,” Fortenberry said.
“The Act also makes permanent the Land and Water Conservation Fund to support conservation and recreational opportunities across the nation. For years we have endured a backlog of necessary maintenance at our national parks. An investment in this public work is important. Providing certainty for the future of the Land and Water Conservation Fund is a great boost to communities eager for innovative conservation initiatives,” Fortenberry added.
“The Great American Outdoors Act is an important and much-needed complement to the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, an initiative I co-led to conserve at-risk wildlife species in every state.” Fortenberry said.
Fortenberry is the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and is the sponsor of the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA), which tackles habitat and species problems before they require the emergency-room interventions of the Endangered Species Act.
