Fortenberry Cosponsors JUSTICE Act
(LINCOLN, NE)–– Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) offered the following statement today after joining over 100 House colleagues as an original cosponsor of the JUSTICE Act. The bill dramatically improves law enforcement practices, as well as accountability, training and de-escalation measures.
“The United States House of Representatives will soon consider a number of important federal measures to help ensure police are well-trained, do not use excessive force, and can keep our communities safe. Today, I cosponsored the JUSTICE Act, written by Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina and Representative Pete Stauber of Minnesota. Pete is a friend and former police lieutenant who was shot in the line of duty,” Fortenberry said.
“It is very important that law enforcement in our country move forward with two objectives––balancing safety in our communities with compassion for persons,” Fortenberry added.
Fortenberry is the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations.
