Fortenberry Statement on Ongoing Budget Negotiations
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jeff Fortenberry today issued the following statement concerning the ongoing government funding negotiations:
"I am hopeful that a reasonable and responsible solution to our current budget situation will be reached soon. I don't believe a government shutdown is in America's best interest. This would be particularly difficult for our military families and soldiers in the field, as well as people who need access to essential government services. We must work to control spending in Washington, and I expect negotiations to continue in earnest."
Fortenberry yesterday voted for H.R. 1363, a stopgap bill to ensure military pay and avert a government shutdown. This measure passed the House of Representatives and was sent to the Senate for action.
